about me

Julia Kagan is a visual artist and creative located in the Mount Pleasant neighborhood of Washington, DC. Her mediums span paint, pastel, printmaking, mixed media, and collage. Julia received a liberal arts education at Dickinson College, where she studied psychology and gender studies, and completed studio art coursework in printmaking and ceramics. She continues her arts education by participating in local classes and workshops, including Introduction to Book Illustration at Pyramid Atlantic Art Center in Hyattsville, Maryland. Julia has a true love of learning and is always eager to learn new mediums.

Julia is inspired by animals and the natural environment that she engages with both at home and while traveling. Originally hailing from Massachusetts, creatures native to the Northeastern US often make there way into her work.

She is also fascinated by personal ephemera - the objects that we surround ourselves with and place on our table that help to form our sense of identity. She regularly arranges still lives with her own beloved objects and culinary delights.

In addition to her personal art practice, Julia has spent her professional career honing communications skills in both nonprofit and corporate settings. She is pleased to offer communications and project management services to working artists.
